General Description

The DAT512 is a dual-channel, passive loop-powered current isolator designed for 0–20 mA and 4–20 mA analog signals. Each channel operates completely independently, allowing two separate current loops to be isolated and transmitted without requiring an external power supply. This makes the DAT512 an efficient and cost-effective solution for industrial signal isolation.

Designed specifically for isolating analog signals between field equipment and control room systems, the DAT512 is commonly used to isolate instruments such as flow meters, pressure transmitters, pH sensors, or other 4–20 mA devices from PLCs, panel indicators, DCS systems, and other receiving equipment. It ensures reliable signal transmission while eliminating ground loops and minimizing electromagnetic interference.

By supporting two isolated channels in a single compact unit, the DAT512 helps save valuable space on DIN rails and reduces wiring and installation costs. It draws power directly from each 4–20 mA loop, requiring no auxiliary power supply.

The DAT512 complies with EMC Directive 89/336/EEC and is housed in a durable 22.5 mm plastic enclosure suitable for DIN rail mounting (EN-50022 and EN-50035 standards), making it ideal for use in compact or high-density control panels.

Frequently Asked Questions about DAT512

What is the DAT512?
The DAT512 is a dual-channel loop-powered isolator for 0–20 mA or 4–20 mA analog signals. It isolates two separate current loops without requiring external power.
Are the two channels in the DAT512 independent?
Yes, each channel is completely independent and provides galvanic isolation between input and output for two separate current loops.
Does the DAT512 require a power supply?
No, it is loop-powered and draws power directly from each 4–20 mA signal, eliminating the need for a separate power source.
What devices can the DAT512 be used with?
It is commonly used with field instruments like flow meters, temperature transmitters, and pressure sensors, and interfaces with PLCs, chart recorders, panel meters, and DCS systems.
How much space does it require on a DIN rail?
The DAT512 is housed in a 22.5 mm plastic enclosure, making it compact enough for dense DIN rail installations.
Is the DAT512 EMC compliant?
Yes, it complies with EMC Directive 89/336/EEC for electromagnetic compatibility, ensuring interference-free operation in industrial environments.
